How to Engage!

There are four phases of this Community Engagement Process!

(1) Induction – we start with an initial discussion (face-to-face preferably or by phone) on how we might work together including identifying a suitable project challenge, objectives and timescales. This may be a new project, joining someone else's project to re-use and enhance content, or adding a new, richer communications layer to an existing relationship. The school(s) will be asked to provide a School Owner to drive the activity, liaise with local and global partners and provide a one page minimum entry for the Project section of this website. To do this, the owner will be allocated a user id and password. No training or special equipment is required (although we can provide face-to-face training or phone help as practical from members of the community). Time spent on the project is entirely up to the participants. If this stage is agreed then onto....

(2) Teach-in – typically, we might undertake a 'two-hour' intensive Hothouse/workshop type activity led by Tony Houghton within the school(s) to kick off the work. This would consist of a project related challenge set to the students, teaching of presentation and group working skills, group working and presentations, and the crucial...What are you going to do next! This may include videoconferencing with the global partner school(s).

(3) Hothouse – periodically we organise Hothouses/workshops of various types (similar to 2-above, or a sporting or musical or other event) to provide a focal point for activity and to foster communication and collaboration with other schools and partners in the Community of Practice.

(4) LONG TERM! 2012 & Beyond Community of Practice – all of the above will encourage contributing to and benefitting from long term membership of our community of practice! The Community Engagement process is key! This SECOP site is only a software support to a human-to-human activity!
